Runden Group | Sustainability Report 2023

No stability without change.

This principle shaped the 2023 fiscal year for the Runden Group. As a versatile, family-owned corporate group, we were able to further refine our core competencies: enabling sustainability in the transportation sector, making reusable systems the new standard in food supply chains, and decarbonizing the building sector.

Always one step ahead. Always open to new circumstances.

This attitude contributes to the healthy growth of the entire corporate group and the expansion of the now nine associated companies. Following a dynamic 2022, we were able to consolidate the (further) developments of the companies during the current reporting year, placing greater emphasis on saving resources and circular economy models.

At the same time, 2023 was once again characterized by scary news: Throughout the entire year, we set a temperature record every single month worldwide. This year, the planet was nearly 1.5 degree Celsius warmer than before industrialization. So, when we talk about milestones and goals, they are not only necessary but long overdue. We see significant leverage with positive impact potential in the EU‘s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD)

The reporting year was therefore also used to question, refine, or even completely redesign newly established processes and strategies regarding sustainability management. Through the double materiality assessment, we were able to significantly broaden and further professionalize our activities.

In doing so, we found that we are already on the right track with many issues, and our newly developed transformation concept makes an important contribution to achieving national and international climate objectives. This report also provides insights into the opportunities and challenges

that circular economy business models offer, demonstrating that circularity is possible in many industries.

We embrace the transformation processes with open arms and welcome all those who are or wish to be part of them.

Let’s learn from and with each other, because:

Transformation can only succeed together.

“With our first sustainability report last year, we created a true milestone in our still relatively young group organization. This increased the awareness of all employees regarding the many things we have already achieved together in ecological, social, and economic aspects.

Especially in discussions with outside stakeholders, it becomes increasingly clear how much we are already doing and why it is worthwhile to start transformation processes early on.”

“While other companies are still procrastinating on the CSRD, we are very pleased to already be engaging with the requirements and topic standards ahead of the actual reporting obligation. The increased comparability, transparency, and integration with financial reporting finally give corporate sustainability management the importance it needs to drive meaningful change.”
